Mistakes are a part of life and the pulpit is not immune from them. While sadly some people may see churches as dry and dusty places, there is plenty of humour in the pulpit and also in church and Christian circles.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon pastored the world’s first mega church in London during the nineteenth century where more than 5,000 came every week to hear him preach. It was by far the biggest church in the world.

He could be intensely serious and passionately pursued a holy life, but he also loved laughter. He considered humour such an integral part of his ministry that a whole chapter in his autobiography is devoted to it. He said, “Sometimes, laughter may become the holiest possible expression.”

One of Spurgeon famous quotes is, “I would rather hear people laugh than I would see them asleep in the house of God.”

The Bible says in Psalm 2:4 “The One enthroned in heaven laughs…” Join in with the Lord Himself, laugh, be merry, let “the oil of gladness” fill our lives and hearts!
